Acts 18:1-4 After this Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. And he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to leave Rome. And he went to see them, and because he was of the same trade he stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade. And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and tried to persuade Jews and Greeks.
Did you know we are all called to be tent makers? Well not actual “tent makers” per say, but we are all called to do something so that we are not a burden to others. Now don’t think if you have a day job you don’t have to have a Spiritual Job as well. We are supposed to work with a passion as though we are working for The Lord, but we are also called to share the gospel and that can be in many different ways as well.
Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Over the past few months I have fasted one day a week. On this day, I was seeking God to see what exactly He wanted from me. I was honestly confused. My heart beats for sharing Hope and Christ’s Love through writing, speaking, and pouring into women through Bible Study, but my corporate gifting and calling is in Fundraising, Events, and Leadership. Was He wanting me to do it all or was He wanting me to focus in?
What God revealed to me through this prayer and fast was my passion for the ministries I worked for and my opportunity to share “My Story” through my work.
2 Thessalonians 3:7-9 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us , for we were not disorderly among you; nor did we eat anyone’s bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to you, not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us.
My tent making may be in the world of Non-profit Fundraising, but it doesn’t have to be the same for you. You may me driving an Uber car by day, telling each person Your Story on the way to the airport. Or maybe you are the friendly janitor at Disney World, being joyful while changing the trash can, and taking every opportunity to share Christ’s Love with those who walk by. Maybe you are the executive at Chick-Fil-A who puts on gloves and helps serve when the line gets long at one of your stores and you just want to be able to share compassion with those who are employed by you. All of these are Tent Making opportunities. We all should be Tent Makers by day (or night) and sharers of the Gospel in every way and opportunity God has given us. Don’t let your day job be an excuse to not follow your calling, let it be an opportunity to share your passion and the Passion of Christ with others.
