Day 228 –
Dear Lord, Please remove this heart of stone.
Ezekiel 11:19-20 “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.”
How many people do you know walk around everyday with a heart of stone? They may be bitter, downcast, angry, frustrated, constantly envious, never portraying joy or contentment.
It is not my belief that they want to be this way, instead that they know no other way.
No One was born with a heart of stone, it could have easily or maybe did happen to you and me, but we have been healed. We have been given a new spirit and new heart filled with joy. He had grace upon us and instead of being harmed and hurt we were healed and filled with hope.
Maybe you’ve had a hardened heart in the past, but God has recently given you a new one. Maybe you’ve recently realized your heart is hardened but you can’t figure out how to fix it.
Sadly, the heart that’s hardened didn’t happen all at once but over time and continuous hurts. Maybe it started with callouses of childhood hurts, an ugly divorce, an abusive relative or relationship, drugs, etc., and then as you began to age you settled into the view that God did this to you or allowed this to happen to you. So, you turned further and further away from Him and harder and harder your heart became.
The good news…..no matter how hard your heart, God can still reach in there, even as late as death, and give you a new heart.
This new heart will heal the entirety of your soul and prepare you to worship God forever. How great it is to know that God cares that much.
Pray with Faith for those around you or even for yourself, that your heart may be softened, that the hardened and hurting heart may be exchanged for a heart of flesh filled with love.
Not only pray, but also actively share Christ’s love with those that may have a hardened heart. This will reveal to others what a new heart and a new spirit will be like.
If it’s you that’s struggling with this hardened heart, seek Christ’s love. Find friends that know and love Jesus and will love you in the same way. Find a church home that is filled with Christ’s love, that preaches the word, and provides you with a community of selfless believers. You will begin to see your own feelings change, your heart begin to soften and all the walls that were built up will fade away to reveal the new heart and fill you with a new spirit.
This heart and spirit, it is a new heart and a new start, straight from heart and love of Christ.
