Day 253 –
There is beauty and goodness in the fulfillment of a vow.
Nahum 1:15 “Behold, upon the mountains, the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace! Keep your feasts, O Judah; fulfill your vows, for never again shall the worthless pass through you; he is utterly cut off.”
There are so many different vows we can take, but the ones we see through to completion will magnify the Lord.
A few years ago I made a vow to God that I would post a devotion every day for an entire year. But there were days during that year that I would’ve liked to kick myself for making that vow. The day didn’t have to be utterly bad, there may not have been any unusual trauma, or any girly drama (Thank the Lord). The day could have just started extra early and ended extra late. This may not sound too bad to you, but for a girl who loves her sleep, probably a little too much, this was catastrophic.
Grouchy isn’t even the problem, more than that the problem I find is when I’m overly exhausted I nod off in any place I can find to sit, especially if that place is reading, writing, or listening. However, I had made a promise, a vow, to the Lord that I was going to keep.
And while I found myself complaining about my exhaustion, a friend reminded me that someone somewhere needed to hear the words written even if I had no idea what they would say or how they would come out.
Our verse today hits this same nail on the head. How beautiful are the feet of those who share the good news.
These are beautiful feet, (not because they LOOK pretty) but because they carry the love of Jesus from person to person and across the world. And when we promise God that we will carry His love in this way, that we will share His Word with others, we must fulfill this promise so it can Glorify Him.
Even though I still find myself exhausted (most of the time), my desire is to take His Word around the world and to share His Love with every man, woman, and child.
Fulfilling this vow will bring more beauty than any amount of beauty “rest” will bring me!
