Between Christmas and Easter

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.

Luke 9:23-24

Can I play some of my childhood Christmas music yet? Alvin and the Chipmunks singing about Christmas Time is about the best way to get me back into the Good memories of my childhood.

However, even in my childhood, my life has been anything BUT easy. I’ve faced one hardship, gone through a period of so called “normalcy” (what’s normal anyways), to another hardship.

I wish it could be like Christmas and Easter all the time….festivities, decorations, holiday music, yummy food, advent calendars, family get-togethers, matching pajamas, bright lights, treasured hunts, Christmas trees, and crosses.

But in reality, most of our time is spent living between Christmas and Easter and Easter and Christmas. It’s spent living our lives in light of the cradle and in the shadow of the cross.

Truly LIVING is seeking to make it to the end, the promise of the cross with the cross ever before us, in view of us, inside of us. It’s never being comfortable, but instead, realizing the call on us, to be like Jesus, born in a dirty stable dying on a rugged cross daily.

I’m still dreaming of Christmas and Easter on the daily….For that is where my HOPE is found. BUT I’m LIVING between Christmas and Easter, taking up the CROSS of my un”easy” life to share the GOODNESS of what is yet to come.

Lord,

Help me to remember the cross as I constantly seek the fun. Help me to be a light between Christmas and Easter, using my hardships for your Glory, pointing others to You.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
